The journal of a Pyr Guard, troubles in the Market districts

Pythus Aedon entered his barracks, quickly put away his helmet and gloves, and grabbed for his journal. Recently having graduated into the city guard, he journaled every day as evidence of his loyalty and service to the Empire. Today he was notably eager to log his experience.

The events of the day continued the increasing tensions we have been seeing from the working citizens of the city.

While patrolling Cheapside Market I noticed a cluster of citizens beginning to form near Cheapside Way. More citizens gathered as the debate became obviously heated and voices began to rise above the crowd. I decided to approach the group when it grew large enough that passage into Cheapside Way was being blocked.

Before I could reach the group they began to filter through Cheapside Way, making a parade to Highmarket. Their shouting voices became understandable and they were emphasized by raised fists. The voices merged into chants as they walked.

"The Akenak are deaf to Pyr's workers!"
"Our trade routes are given to bandits and thieves!"
"The water dries, the baby cries, the Akenak meet and offer us lies!"

In my time I have often had arguments with citizens posing critical views of the actions of our leaders, but never had I heard a citizen shout directly against them.

The crowd pushed their way into Highmarket and raucously accosted the vendors and patrons with their claims against the Akenak. To my surprise, several of the vendors cheered the group on. Fearing a riot was being incited, I made my way to Merchant's Walk to contain the group with the help of other patrols approaching from the west and north. Thankfully the citizens quickly calmed when they noticed us approaching and peacefully dispersed.

Needless to say, I will be on a much higher alert level for the next few days.
