Questions from a new player

Added by Rikutatis 7 months ago

Hello everyone,

I'm new to Ryzom but I'm really enjoying the game so far. I'm highly interested in the lore of Atys and in roleplay (as scarce as it may be). I've read through the lore and chronicles and I have some questions:

1) Did all the events after 2525 happen after the launch of the game? If so, were the players the ones who actually voted for the new Tryker Governor?

2) Which government roles are entrusted to PCs? Anything other than the Akenak/Taliari/Nobles? The lore files mention the kard'al and ambassadors (for trykers), the Dexton legion (for fyros) and the clergy (for matis), among others. But it's not very clear whether they're NPCs or PCs.

3) Is there any guild out there with a stronger focus on roleplay? From the wiki list of guilds, it would seem that the only active one is Evolution. I suppose the question is: realistically, what are my chances of finding at least semi-periodic roleplay in the game?

Thanks for your time!

Rik

Welcome Rik!

I am no expert, but I will try to answer your questions. :)

1) From my understanding 2525 was the launch of the game. I was away from game when Still Wyler was assassinated and I am not sure if there was a vote for Lady Ailan to become governor. I have never heard tell of one if there were. I do recall that there was some type of election during that time, but I am not sure what that was for or about; hopefully, someone else can enlighten us. :)

2) At this time the Akenak, Taliar, and Nobles are the only ones that have been implemented. But if you read the government pages, it is evident that there is room for growth and expansion as our population and active players increases.

3) Many active guilds are semi-RP. I would suggest checking out some guilds and play with them to see how well they tolerate RP w/in. I don't think Evolution is very active atm or at least I have not seen them around for a while (I have been busy IRL for the past few months and may have missed a return however). For the most part, the RP's seem to find each other without being in the same guild. :)

Hope to see you in game!

1) In 2533, Lady Ailan was elected in elections to select a new Tryker governor after the death of Still Wyler.
Whether this vote was by players or part of lore I do not know, it was well before my arrival in Fairhaven as a young homin, and even longer before I gained voting rights as a Tryker citizen.

2) I'm not even sure what the actual influence on the development of Atys by the player governments actually is. I do know the only one that seems to gather with any frequency is the Fyro Akenak, but that might just be because they're the only ones actually writing about it (quite in contradiction to their duty, which is to keep all homins appraised of their discussions).

3) Many homins do some roleplaying. Sadly many do not seem to understand when someone is in character or not. Evolution seems to be just 2 people, maybe 3, right now. At least I've never seen more than that.

OOC: as the community shifts towards a more pvp centric gameplay, roleplaying is being pushed back as people focus almost exclusively on grinding skills that will hopefully give them an upper hand in outpost battles.
Those not participating in those are being pushed out, shunned and harassed even by some.

IC: Jena tells us to love all homins. It can be hard, but I try to live by that and welcome every one of them with a smile and what help I can provide them with my meagre skills.
We should unite against the kitin menace and to rebuild Atys and make it a better place to live for all homins without strife about our disagreements about whether the Karavan or Kami represent Jena's message most truthfully.

As a Kami follower I am sworn to oppose the Karavan as they are sworn to oppose me. There will be times of war and times that are more peaceful.

"as the community shifts towards a more pvp centric gameplay"
Its only natural that we shift between times of war and times of peace, but since you have not been around for long, you may not realize that the community was far more “pvp centric” in the past than it is now.

"Those not participating in those are being pushed out, shunned and harassed even by some"
This is utter nonsense.

What confuses me is why some people think that PvP and RP are some how mutually exclusive. In combination you can have rich and exciting RP.

OOC: I wish rp would be more appreciated, as amazing as the event team's work is and was, it's impact was almost none. Now the team is short on manpower again, maybe people gave up? It's really sad to see the community seems to enjoy PvP more then RP.

@Sweetie: I have yet to see any RP linked to PvP. All I see is drama and boredom.

(OOC)

Thank you everyone for all the useful information! =)

I think in theory RP and PVP are not necessarily mutually exclusive. I honestly don't know how that works in Ryzom though, since I haven't been involved with PVP there.

However what I can say is that even though I'm not a PvPer and I do not participate, I don't feel shunned or pushed out in the least. Granted, I haven't been around for a long time, but so far I've been able to have some really good interactions and experiences in the game. I haven't felt left out of anything up to this point.

On the other hand, I have this tendency of reading really old BB posts and looking at ancient guild listings, and it does appear to me that in the past there used to be many more RP-focused guilds than there are today. I just can't know why that is the case.

Oh, I do have another question in case someone is still reading this! =)

According to the lore pages, both the Matis Nobles and the Taliari are formed by the leaders of Matis and Tryker guilds, respectively. Can a GL of one such guild appoint someone else to join the government in his place?

Thanks!

For the Trykers a high officer who is a citizen can attend as the GL representative for the Taliar.. Not sure about the Nobles.

To answer the second part of the first question: Yes players voted for the successor of Still Wyler
see An election in Tryker and First Round Election results

Rikutatis, some further details: A Tryker guild can request to be granted a Taliar when they have more than 5 active members.
Taliar can be either the guild leader or a high officer appointed in his/her stead to represen the guild.
To receive the title (rather than just assume the position) the officer needs to have a good standing with the federation, translating in being a Tryker federal citizen with at least 50 fame.

I assume the rules for becoming a Matis noble would be similar if not identical.
Probably best to ask an existing Matis noble, I know Kassie is one, I think so are Peone and Jayce.

I don't know how applications are now handled. Probably the guild representative wishing to become a noble would present him/herself to the Queen and Her nobles to plead his/her guild's request.
Again, best to ask an existing noble or a CSR.

Sweet, I've myself encountered such harassment and shunning so don't call BS on it. I'm happy it's a vanishingly small part of the community engaging in it, but it exists. Feel happy you've not encountered it yourself (though, being an active pvp player, you wouldn't have been its victim, at most having noticed it happening at a remote).
I'm happy I've found homes where people respect my non-agressiveness as is and don't ridicule me because of it. Sadly others outside those guilds think different.
