Mais il ne pouvait pas se laisser croquer... Il eut alors une idée. Il retourna sur ses pas, récupérant des cornes de capryni qu’il avait vu auparavant. Il se les attacha sur la tête avec une liane de slaveni, et cacha les nœuds avec un bout de fibre rouge que le vent avait apporté. Puis il alla se présenter au gingo, ainsi déguisé, et lui dit qu’il était l’envoyé d’Atysoël. "J’ai entendu ta peine en ce soir où tous doivent sourire, lui dit-il. Raconte-moi ce qui te rend malheureux !" Le gingo ravala ses larmes, étonné par l’apparition. Il expliqua : "j’ai mangé le soleil, et maintenant plus jamais il ne fera jour ! Je suis né avec les premiers rayons de l’aube, J’ai joué toute la matinée dans la neige, Puis j’ai trouvé ce grand arbre plein de lumière. J’ai sauté, sauté, pour attraper toutes les lumières, Je les ai toutes fait tomber, Mais quand la dernière est tombée, La nuit est arrivée..." Le yubo se mit à réfléchir. Il eut soudain une autre idée. Il lui expliqua qu’en brisant les lumières d’Atysoël, le gingo avait offensé le Kami des fêtes. Mais que pour réparer l’offense, il lui suffisait de faire ce qu’il dirait. Le gingo, ravi d’avoir une occasion de se racheter, promit au yubo d’Atysoël de faire tout ce qu’il voulait. Alors le yubo l’emmena dans la forêt, au pied de la Rotoa. Là bourdonnait une ruche. Comme la Rotoa fleurit même en hiver, elles continuaient de faire du miel. Le yubo dit : "Raconte ton histoire aux abeilles et convaincs-les de te donner leur miel pour faire revenir le soleil !" Le gingo raconta si bien et les abeilles s’amusaient tellement qu’il revint avec un énorme rayon de miel. "Ne le perds pas, nous allons à présent dans le désert." Ils allèrent dans la forêt enflammée, là où les Bothaya réchauffent l’atmosphère. Le yubo dit au gingo d’étaler le miel sur une des jeunes pousses. Encore et encore, si bien que le gingo fut tout poisseux. Mais sur le bâton, à cause de la chaleur, le miel caramélisa. Alors d’un coup de dent, le yubo coupa la canne et la prit. Ils allèrent ensuite dans les lacs. Là, le yubo fit ramasser plein de coquillages de toutes les couleurs au gingo. Puis ils allèrent dans la Jungle. Le yubo agita le bâton de miel caramélisé et des lucioles arrivèrent, attirées par l’odeur. Nombre d’entre elles se collèrent aussi dans la fourrure du gingo. "Et maintenant, à l’arbre d’Atysoël !" Vite vite, ils revinrent. Le gingo sauta et sauta encore pour accrocher dans l’arbre les coquillages qu’ils avaient ramassés. Les lucioles s’amusèrent à les faire miroiter. La canne de sucre dégageait un parfum suave. Le yubo sourit, très content de lui. Le gingo regarda les nouvelles décorations qui brillaient. C’est alors que le soleil recommença à pulser. C’est qu’ils avaient couru toute la nuit sur l’Écorce pour décorer l’arbre !
